Psalm 40: Part 3

Psalm 40: Part 3

Sacrifice and offering you did not desire–but my ears you have opened–burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Then I said, here I am, I have come–it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will, my God, your law is within my heart (Psalm 40:6-8).

These verses are a foreshadow of what was to come with Jesus. After Christ died for our sins, there would no longer be a need for burnt or sin offerings. Instead, people would offer up prayer as a sacrifice, and become living sacrifices each day (Romans 12:1).  And, in order to become a living sacrifice, you have to die to yourself, and live for God (1 Peter 2:24). And then to expand on living for Jesus, the psalmist says that he wants to do the Lord’s will. How does he know the will of the Lord? Because it is written on the heart (Heb 10:16).

How is your walk with God? Do you offer yourself up as a living sacrifice each day?
